s it possible to teach yourself gymnastics?

I've been to gymnastics for years now, but im so sick of the stuck up girls that go to my gym. And there are none others in my area. I've recently seen a movie where a girl taught herself gymnastics and ended up auditioning for nationals. She became best in the state. Now, I know that sounds like a fairytale and isn't realistic but I was wondering if it is possible to teach your self. I wanna learn because i like being flexible and fit.

Not safely and not well is the real answer to that one. For some beginner moves it is more realistic but given you've been doing gymnastics for years you likely already can do forwards and backwards rolls, handstand, cartwheel, bridge kick-over, round-off, splits, scales and various jumps and leaps. Beyond that walkovers and front handsprings are not entirely unreasonable to learn at home, but back handspring and somersaults are (yes I know some people do this but they don't do it safely and they don't do it well.) Plus you wouldn't be able to do any of the apparatus besides floor and you probably could only practise moves in isolation there and not linked tumble passes because of lack of space. Proper gymnastics apparatus is extremely expensive.

I suggest you tough it out with girls in your gym. If people are critical of you the thing to do is ask, "is this someone whose opinion I value?" and if the answer is yes then try to treat it as constructive and act on it and if the answer is no then ignore it. I suspect the "stuck up girls" are know-nothings who are best ignored.

To an extent. It will certainly be harder than learning with a good coach and maybe not as safe. You have to get you information from somewhere, be it a coach or online. I'm pretty sure you'll never reach nationals teaching yourself, but it is possible to learn some things with only the help of an online instructor. You will need a bit of equipment though. And while it may be harder, it's not entirely impossible; I was told by several people I could never learn a backflip without a spot and/or professional coach. Well, look at my profile picture. Just be careful.

As a gymnast it is a lot easier! Teaching yourself can lead to serious injuries and is best to be done with an experienced gymnast/teacher. Forget them haters! Haters will hate ya and rate ya simply cause they ain't ya! I had to go through a lot of that drama in my whole 12 years of gymnastics (still in them) You can teach yourself but you might not:

1.have a spotter

2. know what to do exactly

3. injuring

There are probably A LOT more gymnastics places around in your area i live in a small town and there are over 10 in my area. So if she keeps picking on you you can just go to a different gym.

Good luck! :)

It's possible, but unless your really talented you probably won't go as far as nationals. There is stuck up girls on my cheer squad but just learn to ignore them.I taught myself how to do a backbend, with some help on youtube LOL.Do you take like group classes or like private classes? I'm not sure if they offer that at your gym but if you do,you can get one on one attention and no other girls stealing your light.Just do what you love dont let the snobby girls stop you.
