I'm scared to do gymnastics?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
I'm 13 and I really want to start gymnastics but I'm scared of hurting my self. Any advice?

I had the same problem. Once you get older you don't have that daredevil attitude that smaller children have, so it's more difficult to start things like gymnastics. What I would do at first is always have a spotter (someone who can hold your legs up in a handstand or bring your legs around in a slow flip, help your stretch, etc.). Also, don't rush yourself, if you're scared or start to get anxious, take a 2-5 minute break and do some stretches. If you learn the steps of each move and make sure that you have a spotter while you start off your gymnst hobby, you wont hurt yourself. Just make sure that you aren't thinking about other things and that you're paying attention and you will be fine.

Gymnastics is really life risking etc but If thats what you want to do,I suggest you go for it.I did gymnastics when I was 12 and i only limited myself to certain moves. If you hurt yourself,i cant tell you how it'll be but do not be scared to do gymnastics,Set a limit of moves or practice ,practice, practice!!!! You won't fail, practice wont fail on you.

if your scared don't be , don't think just do I know because I am a gymnast myself I am training for a level 8 out of 10 levels I am only 12 year old and 4.5 tall

you won't start off doing really hard stuff so you're unlikely to hurt yourself, you're more likely to start with cartwheels and stuff and you can't really hurt yourself doing a cartwheel. You'll have someone to spot your skills when you're learning, so you won't fall!

Safety first, make sure to wear a helmet, kneepads, elbowpads and earmuffs. Make sure to not eat asparagus before practicing (This is crucial advice for all future gymnasts.)

Start out with the simple basic things until you build strength and confidence. Then you can decide if you want to do riskier moves. If not, well you gave it a good try.

take gymnastics lessons, they use a lot of mats etc. also do a lot of other exercises that work on your strength, agility, and balance.

do not think of fear when i started doing a back bend i was really scared but when i stoped thinking that i will hit the floor i did the backbend
