I definitely think its a sport! I'm a big fan of cheer leading and am about to start. People who say cheer isn't a sport, obviously don't know how hard cheerleader work. Now there are two kinds of cheer. School Cheer and Allstar/competitive cheer. Some people think that school cheer isn't a sport and Allstar is, Some people think both, and others think none of them are. I think Allstar is harder then school cheer and a lot more work, but I think they are both sports. They both require a lot of practice, work, and training. In football, you catch and throw a ball. In cheer you catch and throw PEOPLE. They throw the flyers like 20 feet in the air and they rely on 4 people to catch them. The tumbling and jumps they do require a lot of strength and flexibility. They have to be tight in all of their motions and they have to memorize the choreography. They go through hours of practice to get their routine perfectly. In the competitions, they have to make sure they all look nice and if they don't their team gets points deducted. Everyone's performance affects the team, and if one person does something a little off, points can get deducted. I don't get why anyone would say cheer leading isn't a sport. If anything its more of a sport than anything else. They work just as hard, maybe even harder, then people who play other sports like football. I know cheerleaders have that stereotype of being conceited bitches, but that's not true. I'll admit some girls think that they re all that but most don't. So yes I do think cheer leading is a sport.
First of @Dan. There is competitive cheer, so therefore your point is invalid. Second. I believe cheer is a sport. Some sideline(football and basketball) cheer teams are not. Depending on how much time and dedication the team puts into it(not just an individual). However some sideline teams are. my sideline team is more than just football cheer, is is preparation for competitive season. we have 3 hour practices which include lifting, stairs, ab workouts, along with all the other cheer skills. Sideline cheer is a grey area for me for "sport or not"; however, competitive cheer is DEFINITELY a sport! and I will have a strong educated debate with anyone that tries to argue that fact.
i dont think so, its more of an activity, a bit like being a scout, or part of your neighbour hood watch, you join it to cheer your sports team, its more of an activity you do than an actual sport in my opinion, it has elements of sports such as requiring the things you listen, but so do many other activities.
i think for it to be a sport you need to be able to go head to head, and compete in it, which you dont do in cheerleading you cheer your local football team.
It is a sport in some way
