My school PE is currently in its track and field unit, and one of the requirements is high jump. I'm not athletic, and everybody else (except 3 other girls) are like superhuman and really gifted in physical education. I can't afford to make a fool out of myself in PE, and i need to keep my grade up.
So, at the moment, i can jump over ten inches (pathetic, isn't it? This is my first time doing so.) I really need to be able to jump higher.
and please please also can you guys teach me/tell me/give me video links that teach how to high jump properly? my PE teacher really can't do it at all - his form is totally wrong according to some papers he gave us on high jump, and i don't want to be following a bad example.
So please, how can i jump higher, and what is the correct form for modern big jumping??
thanks so much
The main jump technique nowadays is the Fosbury flop, you use a j curved run up and then take of using the right foot if you took the run up from the left and the left foot if you took the run up from the right when you start to jump you will be pretty much parallel to the bar but as you rise you twist around and pull your hips up so they clear the bar then flick up your legs so they don't catch it, this is perfectly demonstrated here by high jumpe Peter lodge

I don't have a video for you, could probably just search it on youtube
but
I've heard the best way to jump higher is to do lunges and squats with weights to build your leg muscles.
You should really check out Jacob Hiller's (worked with many NBA players and trained Olympian athletes) "The Jump Manual". I was able to add 12 inches to my vertical jump in one month and a half. That's pretty awesome in my book. Good luck!
