That's what happens if channel 9 broadcasts the Olympics instead of channel 7.
It is seriously embarrassing though. Used to be in the top 10, now we're no where near there. Heck, we're not in the top 20!
China who brought less people than us can get 30 gold medals and yet we can't even get 2!
Maybe we're just slacking off this year... This could become a message to the athletes to try a lot harder in the next Olympics.
see i have an answer to your question, maybe not all will agree with me, but see i was checking through the medal count of 2008 in beijing, 2004 in athens, 2000 sydney, and the aussies always had around 14 gold, sometimes even 17 gold!
this year just 1 gold, and I think its because of their attitude. An arrogant attitude never gets you far, like look at Ian Thorpe compare to Michael Phelps...
I lived in Australia for 3 years, 2 years in Sydney and I know how the Aussies can be in general. Saying things like "you've just done this to stay in the country," and well basically they think everyone would do anything to stay in their country,
they even talk americans down! I've heard them do that a lot too... Why do that? Australia is so americanized itself...
My opinion is Australia has a lot of talent, however they HAVE to change their attitude, do not put countries like America down (does it really make them feel better? US is always on the top) and concentrate on a humble attitude,
that will get them way further, cuz success is here one day and gone the next.
Labor cut funding to Olympic sports . Olympics isn't part of their socialist agenda
Bitter words from Billy! Team GB have worked hard and now they are seeing the fruits of their labour! No cheating involved! GO TEAM GB!!!
Bad luck I guess. There's been a lot of near misses.
This article answers that question:

too much focus on the cricket and rugby
jet lag?
Cause you aren't cheating like the dirty Brits
from about the 2000 Olympics to the 2008 Olympics we've been doing amazingly well at the Olympics but this year at london we're doing horribly. we've only won one gold in the pool, which also happens to be the only gold medal we've won after day 8.
it's really embarrassing.
new Zealand also has more gold than us which proves that population doesn't actually have that much to do with it.
so why is Australia doing so badly?
