Is 17 too old to start a new sport?

I'm 17 years old, a female, my bmi is 19, im in good shape generally. I really want to take up a sport idk what, but be serious about it.

Am I too old to start? what are your opinions?

tbh i was thinking more towards a self defence sport like boxing or karate.. something like that but idk.

You are never too old to start a sport, there are old people who have retired and take up sports. Regardless of your age you can start any sport, so long as you aren't 90 years hoping that you can do parkour. That may be just too ridiculous.

If I were you I would try and find a sport centres in my area and see what they have to offer. As well as how much it costs, afterall if you were to join a club you will certainly have to pay a fee.

Perhaps some of these sports may interest you:

- Boxing

- Karate

- Judo

- Fencing

- Parkour

- Free running

- Aikido

- Kick boxing

- Wing Chun

- Jiu-Jitsu

- Jeet Kune Do

- Western boxing

- Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu

- Keysi Fighting Method

- Krav Maga

- Kung Fu

- Taekwondo

- Muay Thai

Why should it matter what other people may think if you are ready, willing and able to put in the time and effort necessary so as to take part in a sport at whatever level you choose to participate?

It almost sounds as if you are looking for an excuse not to take up a sports activity....

If you want it, you will do it and you will do what it takes to get to the level you want to play and be at.

It is that simple.

I think you should try fencing ! You are never too old to start fencing.I think that fencing should be good because you want a exiting fast sport which is also kinda a self defensive sport too so i think fencing will be perfect ! :)

You are certainly not too old. A different option you may not have thought about is synchronized swimming. Check to see if there is a club in your area that offers recreational or masters programs!

Mike Tyson took up boxing at 16 years old and look how much he has achieved

Never too old to learn something new. You could be doing it your whole life. I took up golf after retirement and LOVE it.

start running. Cross country or road races. takes no skill just hard work.
