Depending on the high school you are going to, the skills may vary. Expect to be taught a routine, sequence of jumps, cheers, and maybe tumbling (carthwheel, front roll, etc.) To me, there are two very important thing to have when walking into cheer clinic and at tryouts: CONFIDENCE and SPIRIT! The coaches will definetely look for these two things. They want someone who can get the crowd going. I also recomend that you start stretching now so you can have some flexibility. Look up cheer stretches on Youtube. Stretch everyday to get results. I really hope this helps you!!
Edit:
When the time comes for tryouts, make sure to pull your hair out of your face, up into a ponytail. And absolutely NO JEWELRY!! I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to NOT wear jewelry.
I can't tell from experience since I don't do cheer, but from what I know, high school teams are often regarded easier than the 'All Star' cheerleading (if it's your case?). I think you will definitely need to know how to do a cartwheel since it's a very basic skill. BHs would be helpful to stand out during tryouts, but I don't think it should be required from you. I hope I was at least a bit helpful :)
I would imagine that they are sweaty and sexy, but honestly, I don't know. My imagination is definitely better than the reality of it I'm sure.
Well you practice and practice then get totally nervous when tryouts come
