Should I do gymnastics?

I'm a 14 year old boy who would like to do gymnastics. I know I can't get to the olympics or anything like that. I just want to do some sort of sport/physical activity. I've also seen that doing gymnastics requires and improves upper body strength, which I desperately need, as well as makes you muscular, and I wouldn't mind being muscular xD. So if I should do gymnastics, how should I approach starting it? I don't want to end up in a class with a bunch of little kids, and I'd prefer private/one on one training. Please help!

Absolutely. The good thing about being a guy in gymnastics, is we peak later in life. The girls you see in the Olympics are high school age, but the men are in the twenties. USAG just changed a lot of the routines and rules to make the sport more accessible. It's too the point that the base routines are almost too easy. If you are going to do it, I would suggest doing it immediately. At 18 we are no longer able to compete in the JO program and if you don't get into college your only option for staying a part of the sport is to start coaching ( like I did ). Most gyms will offer private lessons to quickly build you up to team level, but it's usually expensive.

While if you take public classes, you will end up with little kids. If you take some privates with a coach, I think you would be better off.

And heck yeah it makes you more muscular. I have a ten pack. I can do fifty pull ups, climb the rope without legs, and jump twice my height.

a lot of the men's gymnastics is upper body so you will most likely end up more fit than I am. And guys are made for muscle. Have fun!
