Did McKayla Maroney snub the Russian on purpose?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
At first glance my husband and I thought that all she did was ignore the girl, but we replayed it on DVR and heard her say "back off okay" when the girl tried to hug her. We played it back probably 10 times and we heard it each time. She not only snubbed her but she simply was extremely mean to her.

She probably did but shes very young and all these Olympians are amateurs so 1 they are not here as professionals and your going to see the seasoned vets act more mature in a loss than a rookie and 2 she wants to be the best and if she doesn't get to be the best then she doesn't want it at all that's how an athletes mentality is if everyone that is ranking you is ranking you as the best and you get a silver or a bronze or don't even medal your going to be mad at yourself 3 if you lose something you don't wanna talk to anyone you want to be alone and she was probably mad and she was OK with hugging the Romanian girl but when a the #1 comes up to you and is taking to long in saying hey congrats on the silver?? i am going to be mad also she might have not saw her go in for the peck on the cheek she looked at her shook her hand for an instant and then turned her head and stared angrily away from the Russian so yes she needs to work on her sportsmanship a bit and the hiding the medal thing id do the same thing with any #2 place trophy medal or etc. . In professional sports there is no trophy for 3rd or 2nd only for 1st place the losers can handle loosing because they are professionals at what they do and know how to handle a loss and if you cant handle a loss or learn how to then you wont be a professional athlete for long but McKayla Maroney is a nice young girl and she just needs to learn thats all besides any young person would take a loss exactly the way she did and the kids in these other countries are a lot more mature because they start doing there sport a lot earlier than USA kids

Maroney's sense of entitlement to a Gold medal before the event and then her snub of congrats may be immaturity on her part. She left the world with a sense of bad impression unlike her team mates who cried and then went on with the Olympics. Participation in the Olympics should be thought of as a reward for a job well done not forgetting that you represent a country and not your own self serving needs. And a Silver medal is nothing to sneeze at.

I heard her say "Back off, okay?" after re-watching the Vault Finals On Demand. On Twitter, she said that she asked for forgiveness and she wasn't thinking straight at the time. She also said that she gave them real hugs at the end of the medal ceremony and that sportsmanship is very important to her.... Sometimes people get really upset about things, and they're okay about it the next day. And it's not like she's the only one in Olympic history to act this way.

I was appalled at her behaviour. Not only did she snub the Russian gymnast but even when her coach was trying to hug her she kept pulling away. Someone mentioned that she is just inexperienced and that she's a nice girl............really? Nice girls do not act that way, EVER!! She's a brat, a snob and just plain mean. She did not deserve to win any medals - such unsportmanlike behaviour!

Well, she was practically guarenteed gold and it was snubbed from right underneath her. She got silver. You could tell she was trying soooo hard not to cry!

I think she ignored that one hug from the Romanian because it hurt her. She wanted that gold so badly and the Romanian won it.

Nothing against her, though. She's said that these girls are her friends (which I imagine so, since she's homeschooled), and she meant nothing against them. I think she was just in shock, and was trying hard to hold herself together on worldwide television.

She definitely snubbed her. What a stupid spoiled brat. Way to represent our country McLoser Maroney - just feeds into the stereotypes people have about Americans. Would have been nice to see her not medal at all, then we wouldn't have had to see her stinkface on the podium.

I to recorded it and saw the same thing when played back!!! What an ungrateful little ***** !!!! Do you know how many other girls there would have been crying their eyes out with happiness for winning a silver!!!! For her to say "back off" is soooo unsportsman like, something should be done, suspension, something. She alone has given the United States a huge blackeye !!! No-one, I repete, NO-ONE should be happy for her, and they should show it!!!!

she was hella upset

I just posted a similar question and yours came up. She's a poor loser and a snob. She looked like she was glaring at the Romanian while and after she hugged her. She's a poor sport and can't accept the silver with pride then she shouldn't participate in my opinion. A poor representative for the US

or did she not see her? She didn't want to hug the Romanian winner but did it anyway. Then afterward just gave her a stare lol. Then the Russian came over to hug Romanian then tried to hug McKayla but McKayla wasn't having none of that lol

Yes she did. You could tell she looked down when the Russian tried to hug her. Poor sportsmanship, but she is young I suppose.

She was pissed and it showed poor sportsmanship..... If you actually listened she told the Russian girl, "back up from me".... I had to rewind it several times because I couldnt believe what she said....

Yes, yes she did. Maroney told her to "back off" when she approached her with a hug.

Probably. She seems like a prissy little snoot by the way she was acting.

poor sportsmanship... no basic manners or training on social etiquette... brat unused to not getting what she wants..? who knows what was in her head.

with the number of women falling flat i suspect someone tampering with the landing mats, they looked far too squishy to me.

Probably

Watch it again, McKayla's eyes are closed and completely focused on holding back the tears. She didn't snub her on purpose, she just didn't realize it

She sure did. What a brat.

What sport?
