In Gymnastics ye have to go to yer 1st Olympics when yer like 15 and yer 2nd Olympics when yer 19, then yer be lucky if they let ye go to another olympic event.

Are you talking about the soccer teams walking onto the pitch with the children? It is a custom or tradition for teams to do that (don't watch much soccer, do you?). I think the idea is promote unity and fairness and begin the match on a friendly note.
