What is cheerleading like?

I want to try out, but I'm a little nervous. I have a few questions..

1. What is tryouts like? Do you have to do like what they do on t.v, where you have to think of a cheer and do it all alone?

2. What should you wear to tryouts + practice?

3. If you don't know how to do a certain thing, will they help you?

4. Usually is the cheer captain nice...?

1) Tryouts are different everywhere. You might be required to make up your own cheer or perform one with 3 other girls. Never be afraid to ask the coach for more information!

2) If you're doing high school cheer I would suggest comfortable shorts (like soffes), a sports bra, form-fitting shirt, and sneakers with white socks (cheer shoes would be best but ONLY if you already have them). Having your hair up with a now is a plus, too.

3) Absolutely! They want everyone to do the best they can. Remember to practice tumbling and anything you aren't super good in yet, though.

4) The cheer captains I've known have always been very nice. They've usually been on the squad for a while and are happy to help.

5) That is not a stupid question at all! ANYBODY can cheer. Size will sometimes determine your stunting position. i.e.) a flyer is usually short and lighter weight while a backspot is typically tall.

I hope I answered all your questions the way you want!

2. Depends on what kind of cheer you do, if you cheer for all-stars you'll have to wear the gym practice clothes, they sell them. If you just take normal cheer class to get skills like I do, just wear something that comfortable to you, nike pros spandex are good options, but it might be too pricy, I wear soffee short sometimes, then a sport bra and a normal t-shirt.

3. Yes, they will. And it's fine if you know nothing yet, they will teach you things that fit your level.

5. Cheer is for everyone! No certain size!

Hope this help and good luck. (:
