Go to Takedown for a streetfight?

Are you serious? or just too young to know better?

Ideally you don't get into "street fight" nor bar fights nor any other type of physical altercation.

If you need to the last thing you want to do is go to the ground. Now don't take this as me saying you shouldn't know how to ground fight. That's the total opposite of what I believe. In fact, having good ground skills is a key to being a well rounded martial artist. I'm just saying that in a situation where you don't' have control of the environment, of those around you, being on the ground is BAD.

In any altercation the goal is to end it as soon as possible. And that means doing what you have to to get out of the fight. Now that could be a trap that breaks someones arm, an eye strike, a kick to the knee, or a strike to the back of the neck as I'm doing a take down. You just never know what someone is going to do.

And if you think everyone will attack the same you're a fool. And if you are starting fights and attacking others, you're a bigger fool. So the my "go to" is avoid fights. My next one is do whatever I have to end the situation, usually some sort of block/move, counterstrike get them off-balance end things combination.

Define "streetfight". If it's a self-defense scenario, your best strategy is to look for an escape, and choosing to take your opponent to the ground and following him there makes it MUCH harder to disengage.

If it's some BS, ego-driven "challenge match" then it all depends on what your skills are vs. what your opponent's are. If he's a better wrestler, attempting a takedown would probably give him the opportunity to counter it and put you in a crap position. If he's better on the ground than you are, taking him down may just allow him to get the fight where he wanted it in the first place. If he's just a brawler, or if he's a superior striker, it might be a viable choice then.

I'm primarily a boxer so.... I don't really have a "go to takedown". I'm gonna try to pressure my opponent and hit him with power shots. If he clinches me, I'm gonna try a sweep or hip toss depending on how we get tied up. I also train JiuJitsu so I'll use my submission and position skills to either ground-and-pound or choke him. This is of course if there's absolutely no way out of this altercation.

if its one on one of course u can land a takedown and look for some ground n pound if nessisary... however like many people will tell u try and avoid the fight all together

Are you asking what my go to takedown would be, or what your go to should be? My go to would be a clinch to double leg. As for what yours should be, no one can answer that but you. What works for me may not work for you and vice versa.
