Which martial art should I take?

I do Boxing. I find it very fun, and hard working.

Now Muay Thai has a way bigger arsenal than boxing,Such as elbows kicks knees and such. , so if you wanna check that out.

TKD is based upon some good kicking techniques, although you can rarely find a good dojo.

Krav Maga is really watered down so be careful with that. Hung Gar is a great Kung Fu. It's stance is really notable, mis-characterized as solely external; that is, reliant on brute physical force rather than the cultivation of qi; even though the student advances progressively towards an internal focus.

Like all traditional martial arts they're mostly watered down here in the states. So if you want a more aggressive martial art go muay thai or Boxing. If you want to test your luck with a Traditional martial art then good luck. Now I'm not bashing on TMA for they can be dangerous if taught properly.

All in all I say take Boxing or Muay Thai.

Ballet...just joking. Just take any you are interested in. I personally do Tae Kwon Do and love it.

Oh and I don't get why people keep saying its so easy to get a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. My instructor is actually pretty strict and doesn't just "give away" belts. I guess it depends on the school you go to.

All martial arts styles can be taught many different ways and for many different reasons. You need to determine what it is you want to learn. Sports is very different training from self defense, and just for fun and fitness is altogether a different matter. Once you have figured out why and what you want to learn you need to find the teacher who teaches that. You may end up in the most unlikely styles (I know I did) but what does it really matter if you have a really good teacher who teaches what you want and sometimes really need to learn?

I could also tell you what I like, like the other posters did. I have some really good teachers but that would not help you much because you will have different teachers unless you happen to live in my area and maybe in your area the teacher are not that good. A good teacher makes a world of difference and very much determines how good you will be. If you have a not so good teacher what you can learn will be limited.

So unfortunately that puts the burden back on you. You need to do your homework. Visit all the schools in your area. Talk to the teachers, get as much info as you can, watch the students because this will be you and ask for free trial classes. It's tedious and time consuming but well worth the effort if you are serious about training. There is nothing worse being committed and only finding out a few years down the road you are in the wrong school.

I would say Boxing or Muay Thai

They're the most practical for fighting and self defense. They have the best training too.

I pactice taekwondo and its super fun but it doesnt work that well as self defense until youre a red belt, its fun but not that aggressive.

My brother however practiced muay thai and hes like a killing machine.

Krav maga is awesome, i practiced it too afor a while and its so helpful as self defense, its fun, you learn how to protect yourself in every day life experiences.

So: taekwondo is fun

Muay Thai makes you tough

Krav Maga is the best way to learn to defend yourself

See what youre interested in the most :)

Tae kwon do, I am a blackbelt 3rd degree 2 stars I've been doing it for 1o years. Lol u have to be able to push yourself really hard. And if u actually get really good. U can go all around the world. I currently am in las vegas for a tournament . Its a great oppertunity which I think u should take.

Martial Arts is a very personal thing. its hard for someone to just say "take this one" its a personality thing. I am more of a Tai chi person myself, but if i could recommend a martial arts for someone elsei would Prob Say Muay Thai.

Aikido... Like Steven Segal.... Awesome!

I would really like to learn a martial art, now that I have extra free time cuz I graduated high school, so I looked up some facilities that are within driving distance and budget.

Here they are:

-Boxing

-Krav Maga

-Muay Thai

-Tae Kwon Do

-Wing Chun

P.S. There's also a place to learn Aikido and Hung Gar, but they both are a bit farther away, though I'm still interested

P.P.S. I didn't add Karate to the list because I have many, many friends who knows Karate and I want to take something different than the rest

I'd really appreciate any details concerning these martial arts and other opinions. Thank you all!
