Martial arts for "street fighting" is just about the stupidest notion that's being touted. It'll get you a trip to the hospital or the morgue if you try it for real. The fact is that people who are involved in street violence are not going to try to match you with technique or athleticism. They use weapons, they have the experience and they're not trying to "fight" you; they're trying to take you out... i.e. incapacitate you so that you're no longer a threat.
There's no such thing as a street fight. There's urban violence. These guys know how that's done. Don't try macho posturing with biker gangs. I assure you they'll find a way to make you regret it and it has absolutely nothing to do with how good a fighter you are. They'll just as soon hit you in the back of the head with a crow bar than try to fight you; much more efficient.
It never plays out like in the movies.
Some of the answers you are getting is what is wrong with most Martial arts. Let me ask you this, how many times have you tried to kill someone? How many times have you gone to jail? Would you be OK with going to jail? I don't know about these "Devils Ride" but can tell you that when I worked in hospitals there were people who thought they had this great training, one patient even fought professionally. They lose to the criminals almost all the time. The reason is that if you play sports you play by rules and with the idea of fair play right and wrong. You fight trained to win by submission or knockout they are going to try to kill you. You might wonder about the consequences of winning and going to jail, they have been there. Who do you think has more experience in a life or death fighting you or a criminal? When you begin to think honestly, you realize that even if they are slower and weaker than you, even if you have the best training in the world, they have the experience and less to lose than you when it comes to consequences. Now if you are winning, then you are now dealing with the whole group.
If you're an individual, there is a LOT to fear from any gang. It's because they're a large group of people, and you're just one person. You can't wrestle five dudes at once.
If you're talking one-on-one, then maybe you could take most of them, but if they're the type of person who's faced death, who's willing to kill, or who HAS killed, they may have a psychological edge on you. If you add any training and experience into the mix, your odds go down even further.
I haven't seen Devil's Ride or had conflicts with ghetto gangs, but it depends on the level of violence these guys commit to. Guns and knives are pretty scary. you don't need to be in good shape to stab or shoot someone. Likewise, it doesn't matter how good of shape you're in. A 6 pack and 8 years of wrestling won't deflect a bullet or a blade. Guys who bar fight also have strength in numbers. The mass of 3 bodies against one is not something I care to interact with. Avoid conflict. Don't go picking fights, or you'll eventually get picked apart.
So if someone thinks they are tough is a martial arts question?
Gangs indicate an illegally activity. I would say yes there is something to fear about gangs they are called firearms aka GUNS (Pistols, or rifles).
Bikers are people that ride bikes. That doesn't mean that they are good or bad. Is not wise to put people into categories according to habits, race, gender e.t.c. TV series and movies are for entertainment.
Nah,I know how you feel, I'm a kickboxer and grappler and I'm not afraid of fat old men, but they do have strength in numbers. If you do get them really pissed, try to take em out one at a time :)
Yes. They're bikers.
THEY CAN'T FIGHT BUT ARE USUALLY IN LARGE NUMBERS BECAUSE UNITED WE STAND ALONE WE FALL. . IM A MMA FIGHTER AND THESE GUYS MOSTLY CAN'T FIGHT BUT THEY HAVE INCREDIBLE FIGHTING SPIRIT AND THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN'T TAKE OR BREAK. THESE GUYS ARE USUALLY FEARLESS AND ARE NOT ACTUALLY THUGS JUST LIKE A GANG OF FAT OLD HAIRY MEN WITH BIKES.(CHOPPERS)
I'm watching The Devils Ride and all the pudgy bikers think they are so cool swearing multiple times every sentence they say. It seems like all of these guys are old and out of shape. I'm 18 and I've wrestled for 8 years, won conference, and almost went to state in one of the hardest wrestling states. I also work out five days a week. Is there really anything to fear about the gangs of flabby men? What about the ghetto gangs, are they even weaker?
