Great Britain's last Olympic weightlifting champion was Great Britain's first ever Olympic gold medalist.
Launceston Elliot, 1896. Gold in the one-handed lift; silver in the two-handed lift (gold and silver managed the same lift but the winner won on artistic merit!); third in his 100m sprint heat; lost in the first round of the wrestling to Carl Schuhmann; fifth and last in the rope climbing. Came eleventh in the discus in 1900.

Weightlifting was one of the few sports where GB did not win a medla of any sort. From memory I do not remember GB ever winning one , I think we got a 4th once over 40 years ago.
