Well that all depends on what you want it for if you just want to cruise get a penny board but if you want to do tricks and go to skate parks most definitely get a skateboard because in my opinion they're better because you can cruise with them if you want and when you're ready to do tricks you already have the board if you get a skateboard I highly recommend a plan B skateboard
Penny boards aren't very good for tricks, so if you want to cruise, they be great. They honestly aren't easier to ride, but turn extremely nice. Skateboards cost around 70 bucks for a good one, so they are the SAME price as a penny board when your beginning. However, don't get a cheap one if you see one at Walmart or something, they are dangerous and badly-built. One more thing, penny boards are basically mini long boards.

penny board! i thought it was hard to skateboard and i had no experience but i found it so much easier to ride a penny. it is also easier to turn on and the wheels don't make a loud sound against gravel etc.
start out nickle bigger and more fun. + looks same as penny
