What skateboarding wheels should I choose?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
I bought a simple $30 Walmart skateboard, since there is no good skate shop in my area. (In fact there is no skate shop in my area.) I was also in a hurry, so. Anyway, when I got it, the next morning I went to go skate. My friend taught me the basics a while back. When I got on the ground, I found that, no matter how hard I pushed, I would just not go fast, or gain speed. I would stop within 3 seconds at the most. My roads are rough, bumpy, and full of cracks. The wheels I have are defiantly hard, and around the 50mm size. I need help choosing some good for where I ride. (An amazon link would be GREAT if you can :) ) Thanks. And no, I don t do tricks. I just cruise, and want to take it to school.

First of all, Walmart boards are realy bad. I don't want to bring you down, but the wood they use in the deck is way too weak, the trucks bend easily and the wheels and bearings are ****. The best thing you can do is to look for a decent cruiser on eBay or Craigslist.

If you only use it to cruise around, try to find a wide deck (8'' or higher), decent trucks (independent, thunder, paris, etc.), soft wheels (http://www.tactics.com/info/choosing-ska... and smooth running bearings.

The bearings determine how smooth the wheel will spin. The durometer (softness) of the wheels will determine how easily the wheels will run over bumpy / cracky roads. The trucks will provide decent stability, and adjusting them will determine how fast / easily you can steer. The deck also determines your stability on the board. The wider and longer the board, the more stable you will be.

If you're only going to use it for cruising, you will probably want a wide skateboard deck, the kicktails on the nose and the tail will make it easier to hop over curbs, pebbles etc. Look for a board with softer wheels and smooth running bearings.

With a Walmart board you'd most likely need to replace everything but the deck, though the deck will probably go quickly too.

My setup is:

Habitat deck

Spitfire wheels

Bender hardware

And chocolate dark chocolate bearings

I advise replacing the board completely with what you can afford

UPDATE::

If you're not interested in tricks, just cruising I advise getting a penny board or a longboard

Go on ccs.com. They have loads of skate board stuff and buying info. Much better than anything you will find on amazon.

You can't seem to spell "definitely".
