You don't know if you will actually want to put in all of the long hard hours and study it takes, along with almost constant dieting, the injuries and the lack of social life while training...
So pick a martial art you are interested in and begin there.
After you have been seriously studying that art for five or so years and have attained rank, begin to cross train in other arts that compliment the one you have already learned.
During all this time you should be weight training, doing cross fit style training, running and cycling to build up endurance, and working on your flexibility. You want to start eating clean now and find your ideal weight and maintain it.
Being with small local tournaments for the style you first begin to study and work up to larger tournaments. As you being to cross train, try some of their tournaments and see where it all leads you....
Get to know a good orthopedic surgeon, a rehab therapist, etc. You'll need them later....
Good luck.
I don't think there *are* any female MMA fighters on Yahoo Answers...
You're not too old to learn. You MAY not have a long competition shelf-life; most fighters start in their early 20's, and many already have athletic/martial arts backgrounds, so you'd be playing catch-up for a while, and it would be a few years before you were competition-ready. But really, so what? Have a fight or two, if you want, but years from now, your priorities may have changed anyway. But you can still train at least until your 50's, if you do it smart.
So where do you start? Go to a gym that trains MMA. There's really nothing more to it than that. You'll learn techniques and strategies. You'll get into "ring" shape. You'll be surrounded by people who share your enthusiasm. If you want to compete, it helps if the gym has a competition team.
I did get your message and have tried to answer you. Do you have an e-mail address connected to your account? For some reason it does not recognize your e-mail and does not forward my messages to you. I checked your profile and you have no e-mail address listed so I think this is your problem. Hook up an e-mail to your profile and e-mail me again and we'll talk.

Hi! I'm 22 turning 23 soon. I recently got really interested in the MMA fighting as If that's what I wanted to do my whole life! I don't know if I'm too old to learn (I guess I am) but I really want to train and learn the techniques. I'm not in shape either which keeps making me think else wise. I just want some tips as to where I should start! I hope to compete one day. I find MMA so cool (a stupid reason) . I started looking into local gyms too and will be going to one on Wednesday!
