I have been a Competitive Cheerleader for 9 years and i defiantly think it is a sport, It is my life and i love it.
I was just wondering what everyone else thought about Cheerleading?
I love cheerleading! My daughter has cheered in high school, college and allstar. They're all different and they're all great in their own way. And yes, competitive cheerleading is definitely a sport. However, I do think it should have a different name, because it really isn't "cheer leading." Allstar teams don't cheer for anyone (except themselves). When people hear "cheerleading" they immediately think of sideline cheering, and that's why so many people think cheerleading isn't a sport. Maybe if it was called something more descriptive, like Acro-Dance or Team Acro, it would get more respect from the average Joe who doesn't know anything about cheer. Sideline cheerleaders are actually leading cheers, so the name is appropriate for them. And while it might not require the same level of skill, those girls work hard and serve an important role supporting their teams and promoting school spirit, and I think they deserve respect, too.
i think its a sport too. i hate it when people say that its not a sport! its more dangerous than most sports and it takes just as much effort, talent, and strength if not more than all other sports. especially at the competitive level it is most definitely a sport. i can understand how some people may not see it as a sport when there are no stunting or tumbling involved but once you add those its a sport. it takes a lot of time and dedication, its difficult and cheerleaders even have to look good and smile while performing.

I LOVE cheerleading! I do gymnastics, and I think cheerleading is awesome because I used to do it when I was little, and I loved it but I loved doing balance beam, so I decided to start gymnastics. But, cheerleading will always be in my heart :)
Whatever floats your boat. If it makes you happy, is safe, and legal, I say to for it. I'm not a big fan of cheerleading, but it's just my opinion.
