Personally I'm very excited for the games to go to Japan. Though I am extremely worried that they will start to concentrate more on preparing the games rather than the issues in Fukushima - people are still homeless because of the tragedy and the contamination seems unstoppable, so in one sense, yes I am afraid for the people. All we can hope for is that the 2020 games will bring a bigger joy in these times and that they can help those people at the same time. I think Tokyo will bring a new vibe to the Olympics in their huge technological rise - imagine what the opening/closing ceremony will look like!
As it stands it was the best of the three cities bidding.
Madrid - well with Spain's debt now at record levels, public sector workers forced to accept 10-20% pay cuts and many more being made redundant they simply could not afford it. Even with their spending promises on keeping the costs down we all know how the budgets go up exponentially.
Istanbul - well the current political instability in the area didn't do their bid any favours
Tokyo - the accident at Fukushima is a fair distance from Tokyo its self and there is a clean up on going so it should be perfectly safe. It would be like avoiding anything going to the Ukraine because of Chernobyl.
Well, whenever a country host a major sporting event, the media will always talk about the negatives yet it ends as an success.
China 2008 - Media talks about the politics of China and the situation regarding Tibet, yet it ends up as a success.
London 2012 - The talk of terrorist attack and how London would handle public transport, yet it ends as a success
Rio 2016 - Brazil also hosting the World Cup and at the moment, the public aren't focused on hosting events because of the politics that is leading to the public protesting and rioting.
2020 is a long way, I'm more focused on Brazil. I think Tokyo will be a success and Japan will be sorting out their own problems
I personally wanted Istanbul but the 3 respective nations are capable and believe would be a success regardless where it is.
I am giving serious thought of going to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. If I had any concerns at all about going, I would not have visited Tokyo in December.
I am not the least bit concerned about the continuing problems with Fukushima. The competition venues will not be near Fukushima. I am looking forward to the 2020 games in Tokyo hopefully I will be able to attend.
Fukushima is no closer to being fixed than it was on the day of the tsunami. The problem has only gotten worse. They don't even know where the cores are.
"Threatening to trigger a new―and possibly more devastating―nuclear disaster than the original or ongoing one at the Fukishima plant in Japan, a risky plan to remove fuel rods from a damaged reactor building could unleash an "unprecedented" level of radiation, according to experts, if things go wrong."
Turn off the main stream media propaganda and search out the true story. Before you all commence with the thumbs down you may want to notice I am the only one citing sources.
I'm not afraid of this problem.
