IS 26 years old too late for mma training?

To just train for sake of training with few possible amateur fights, then you are no where near too late. To train and go full pro, you are on the late side, but you still have a chance. If you have done sports(preferably contact sport) then you should stand a bit more of a chance. But before you decide to go full pro and dedicate anything, try it for a year or two. You find that it might not be for you once you start training.

So you are at about 145 lbs currently and I think that is a factor somewhat along with everything else in answering your question. Your lighter and middle weight classes have more fighters than the heavier weight classes and so that could be a factor against you down the road once you start fighting. There is just more competition in the lighter weight classes and so that could make it harder in some ways for you to establish yourself and a career that would outshine and stand above those other fighters and their careers.

The above and 26-28 is about the oldest that you really have any kind of a chance of starting out and doing this I think. Even then it will be iffy because any kind of layoff from training and fighting from an injury or because of personal problems and conflicts would be quite costly for you career wise. Everything would have to line up and fall into place and some luck would also be needed for that to happen I think as well as you winning almost every sanctioned fight in your career.

Don't get me wrong; it has been done but it is even harder to accomplish this now than several years ago. Back then it was a little easier but today you have guys training in their teens and starting to fight as soon as they legally can. By the time they are 26-28 some of them have had 15-20 fights. Pursuing a career in fighting and training for it without any interruptions or set-backs will be needed in order to accomplish this but it can still be done. That window as far as your age goes is rapidly approaching where this is more unrealistic though.

Training at 26 is not a problem. But starting a MMA career at 26 is going to be very difficult for you. Short of being a natural like another James J. Braddock was for boxing, your chances are not good because all the other fighters who started before you will have more skill and experience. That hill you are going to have to climb is going to be a very steep one.

You know what I don't understand? Why do people keep asking this question before they start to train?

no, do it
