How to train myself to do pull ups?

First get comfortable hanging on the pull up bar and make sure you are gripping properly. Most people grip the bar with their whole palm but that is not proper pull up form. The proper way to grip the bar is to wrap your fingers around it and have the bar over where your fingers and palm meet (knuckles should be facing upwards). Next try to find a low pull up bar and do inclined pull ups where your heals are touching the ground and your body is at an angle. Those pull ups are similar to knee push ups, an easier variation that will help you build up to the real thing. Once you get good at that keep trying to do a real pull. You can use a bit of momentum to help you out but eventually you want to get to the point where you use no momentum at all (perfect form). Work hard and never give up no matter what and you will achieve it.

I will tell you 2 ways....

In both ways...

First warm up with a bit of jogging and stretching....

Way 1....

Start first with other exercises for the back in order to reach there....Those are the ones that you pull weights. Also swimming especially the butterfly is great for the back...

Then slowly slowly you will be able to start doing pull-ups...

Way 2....

Do pull-ups in the machine that has weights for helping you...and slowly slowly reduce the helping weights until you are ready to do some pull-ups...

The amount of time is up to you....:)

Until you can do 5 sets of 50 push ups then you can do at least 5 pull ups, since push up increase tri ceps you get to do pull ups easier!!! And ummm WHY THE HELL IS THIS IN MARTIAL ARTS.

I am trying to start doing pull ups, but can't do even one at the moment. I am doing pull down (cable) with 25 kg, 3 sets of 10 reps in each set. I do it twice a week, alongwith other arm exercise.

I am 50 kg in weight (girl), and that makes it double of what I can pull down.

How can I improve it and how long will it take for me to be able to do pull ups.
