I would say either Krav Maga or Silat personally.
They're both pretty straight to the point..
Martial arts like kung fu and styles of kick boxing, taekwondo etc are useful but probably less adapted to 'everday street violence'
Martial arts using high kicks and sort of more visually pleasing techniques may be less effective in serious self defense situations. In silat and Krav high kicks are considered too risky which is true, they focus more on low kicks.
Look up Maul Mornie on youtube for some pretty good stuff on Silat.
There is no best style.
They will all work as long as you train right and have a good instructor.
Your size, body type and sex have nothing to do with the style you want to choose. People that think that your size and body type determine the style know little to nothing about martial arts
Most people will tell you there style is the best or they heard such and such is a great style,
The style is not important, what matters is how good your instructor is and how you train. The style is secondary, they all have there pro's and con's there are no superior styles.
If you have an instructor that can’t teach you how to fight, regardless of the style, what good would it do you?
Choose a school with a good instructor in the end that’s all that matters, that and how you train.
Its the person that has the ability to fight not the style
there is no such thing as ufc style, ufc is an organization using mma.
almost all mma practitioners use tma as a background
Krav Maga. Krav Maga is defending yourself in everyday situations. It is extremely effective and teaches you to use common sense in different situations. They teach you how to avoid a fight, and if you do get in a fight, what is the best way to either get some good hits in and run, or stay and finish the guy. It is a very practical fighting style and I think it is hands down the best kind of martial arts. Add kickboxing to krav maga and you will be unstoppable :)
Yeah Kokoro pretty much gave a perfect answer.
There is no best martial art. All martial arts are designed for self defense and for the street. All that matters is that you have a good instructor and train right. That's all you need.
Krav Maga is really good for self defense because its not considered a sport like bjj or something like that. There's no competitions against other people or gyms or anything. You just learn how to defend yourself and thu teach you dirty fighting as well like ou can hit the balls and eyes and they teach you taking on more than one opponent. It's the fighting technique the Israeli military uses
Krav Maga
Kick Boxing
You want to take kick boxing which will teach you how to take down your attacker before they get close enough to grab you.
Krav Maga is also good too learn aswell to go with kick boxing in case they get in close. Krav Maga is Israeli Army Combat and focuses on close range attacks mostly using elbows and skins/knees.
A few tips for self defense...
-A good groin kick can always be your savior
-Focus on using the least amount of techniques you can to get away.
-Vital points help a lot
-Temple
-Jaw at the back under the ear
-Throat
-Jugular Vains
-Back of the neck on either side
-Back of the head where the skull and neck meet (it feels softish if you push on it)
That should enough to get you by without teaching you the really effective points which can kill very easily with little force.
any martial art is good for depending for yourself in everyday street violence
for competing in ufc the combination of jujutsu-kick boxing is one of the best or jujutsu-muyaithai
Ufc style kickboxing, since most attackers would use brute force charges towards you, it's been proven that traditional martial arts can't defend against it since they were made for the old traditional ways of fighting, though kickboxing is really just about battering your opponent quickly, literally the objective is to break a bone then walk away.
ofc there is best style
if you take 2 styles with similar trainers and give same effort, one will return more
go into something simple and straightforward
boxing
kickboxing
muay thai
krav maga
Brazillian Jiu Jitsu or Boxing or Thai Boxing
for defending yourself in everyday street violence
