Wing chun or boxing please help?

OK brother I'm going to help you out here, I used to fight and i've taken a lot of martial arts. Do not do wing chun for your case. It does not blend well with what you're doing now in the slightest. It will actually make you a worse fighter and it will be confusing as hell to learn with what you're doing because there is no yin and yang. Judo and BJJ are virtually the same so those go well together. Different rules but many of the same moves and concepts. Boxing actually blends well with just about everything especially muay thai. You will have a significant advantage because boxers know how to cut a lot of angles and obviously have better hands so it only benefits you to implement it. As far as wing chun being BS yes and no. One of the founding fathers was one of the baddest mother fu*Kers alive. It was extremely effective. The problem is he only taught a handful of students and those students took a lot of his teaching to the grave with them. It has become very watered down because you get this master who passed it on to his pupil who then passed it on to his until no one really knows ****. There are a couple good ones still out there if you've got the time to put into it but it isn't something i'd go out of my way to pursue. You should keep what you have. Remember a style but be able to blend. I'm prepared to get some flack for this but its the truth. Are there good wing chun fighters? probably somewhere in china but here i wouldn't bet on it. Its better than not knowing anything but very beatable stacked against ring tested martial arts.Good luck in your fight. Focus on muay thai and boxing if you're going to be in the ring.

I've seen some good wing chun before and I'm not here to argue the merits of the practicality of wing chun. However, based on your post, I am going to assume you want to be a professional MMA fighter. If that's the case, you have to ask yourself what type of training will help you get to where you want to go. And unfortunately wing chun has not done very well inside the ring/cage. Sure, I get it: "there no such thing as the best style" and "it is the fighter, and not the style", but you need the right tools to help you get the job done. If the job is MMA, then you have to consider what tools you need to be successful for MMA.

The reason people say wing chun isn't good for MMA is because generally speaking wing chun is so focused on chi sao drills, they neglect to train other tools for combat sports like proper footwork, gauging the distance, bridging the gap, taking angles, fighting off the ropes/cage, circling out, keeping solid defense, taking a punch, etc. These are essential skills for fighting in the ring. It's not to say wing chun is somehow deficient, it just means wing chun training isn't geared towards fighting in the ring. Wing chun instructors sifu Steven Moody and Master Wong have echoed these points: if you want to use wing chun for the ring, then you have to know how to fight in the ring as well.

You also have to consider that most wing chun schools are made up of a lot of casual students, and not aspiring top notch athletes like a boxer or an MMA fighter. So their strength and conditioning program won't necessarily be adequate for fighting round after round in the ring. Also consider that because most wing chun students are casual students, your training partners might not be able to push your skill level as well as a boxing gym where most students aspire to be professional fighters. Remember, iron sharpens iron. Of course none of these points are hard truths and I am speaking in generalities, so if this wing chun trainer of yours can adequately prepare you for the ring, then more power to you.

Some people here are suggesting that you are taking way too many styles, and they may be right. But the reason why so many beginners hop around from style to style and never get anywhere is because a lot of beginners have no goals or destination in mind (myself included when I was your age). So ask yourself where do you want to be in the next 5-10 years. Make some realistic plans and adjust your schedule on how you'll make those goals happen. Make sure your coaches keep you on track as well. There are quite a few MMA fighters now who cross-trained at a very early stage and have found success like Rory MacDonald. Whether you want to specialize in one area and then branch out or if want to be cross train early and be well-rounded...well, that's really up to you, your ability to learn, and your coaches, and not some random internet strangers who have no idea what you want to accomplish in life. Just work hard, keep training, and good luck.

Your already taking too many styles, the more styles you learn in the beginning the less you learn about the style and techniques of the style. If you have to take that many styles especially in the beginning then your training wrong. It takes years to understand a single style and decades to learn a single style. Focus on one style for 7 to 10 years before taking multiple styles. Most people especially beginners are in such a rush for there training, they think they need multiple styles or bounce from one to one. When if you train right all you need is one style

Only people that don't understand martial arts call styles bs.

Wing Chun is not a sport.

boxing.

wing chun is impractical unless you are ready to devout a lot of time into it.

and even then it is still not too practical
