GB and USA are one..
USA is half british. As a triple citizen I can relate.
People may try and pretend that we don't get along but we are actually have a very close bond that people just dont understand.
We support each other
I support Team GB and Team USA, because I chose to, and because I am both a British and American citizen. I have dual citizenship, although I support GB a tab bit more. My mum is American and my dad is British. I lived in America for 2 years and I used to visit family there every summer when I was a small kid. Let people root for whomever they want. I don't understand why that bothers you!
TEAM USA and TEAM GB aren't in direct competition in the medals tables, the US is a sporting superpower and is fighting it out with China for the most medals, personally given a choice between China and the US I know who I'm backing.
And it isn't about Team USA but about supporting individual American Olympians, several US sportsmen and women have already done incredible things in the first week and it is right everyone salutes them, sometimes sport means more than national borders
GB fans support everyone except Australia.
Joking aside, most are cheering outstanding performances regardless of nationality. USA just happen to do very well in swimming, and I expect we will some great US results in athletics.
So come on everyone, show us what you can do.
GB is a small country and they need someone else to root for, USA makes the most sense. Just like Germans might root for Austrians sometimes, or Italians root for Argentinians, or Koreans root for the Chinese.
I think because they are political allies AND because they do not compete directly in most sports. GB's dominate sports aren't often the same as the USA's dominate sports.
I think USA and GB root for each other. Since their allies and off the field and both speak the same language, it creates an affinity. Just like how Americans always rooted against the Soviets.
Yanks probably posting as british. No one in right mind would support country with such a little dignity.
Cos GB are self congratulatory and really annoying. Some people get sick of that rubbish and go support a country that's a little bit less scummy.
you can have role models or someone you like from a different country i suppose
eg usain bolt has so many people supporting him even if they aren't from jamacia :)
I've seen quite a few in this category. Shouldn't you be supporting your country. I mean we need all the support we can get or are you supporting based on your favourite sport
