Actually, Sochi has the same climate classification as Turin which held the Winter Games in 2006.
The last host, Vancouver, isn't known for an abundance of snow or harsh winters.
The important factor is that a potential host have nearby snow-covered mountains.
Sometimes the public never knows why a city was chosen to host the Games. In this case Sochi did not have the facilities or infrastructure in place at the time. Many times it is politics and sometimes out rid bribes that influence the voting.
They were certainly not the best site at the time of the voting.
We will have to wait and see if they can pull it off.
Sochi has been storing snow on the mountains beneath tarps for the last two years, so what they are using is " old snow" and hardly fresh powder. Reports are that snow making machines have been running 24/7/365 for years. Its pathetic.
sochi is ok, it has the sea buty also the mountains. amazzonia is subtropical not south russia
