I believe it is a sport because it is so physically demanding and dangerous. Although some people who do cheerleading only do like simple kicks then i wouldn't really consider it a sport but more something fun like a hobby. But those girls in high school, all stars, university... people should definitely consider it a sport. People are entitle to their own opinion but personally it sure is!
Many consider it not to be a sport. The reputation of cheerleading has turned into a group of preppy girls who yell for football and basketball players. This is only sideline cheer though.
All Star Cheer is competitive. Therefore, it should be considered a sport. All star cheer is one of the most HARDEST and dangerous sports I have ever done. It is not easy stunting, jumping, tumbling, and dancing. It's harder than football if you ask me. (yes, I have done football before.)
For anyone that argues that cheer isn't a sport, lets see you do a standing full. Or throw a girl 20 feet in the air and catch her. Lets see you preform like top gun or smoed.
Yes, since it is very physically demanding, and have to use up a lot of energy. As you notice cheerleading is elements of gymnastics and dance combined. Both gym and dance ARE sports, asking cheerleading a sport.x
All star cheerleading and high school teams who compete under a qualified coach and event is a sport. School cheer teams, rec teams, AAU teams etc, who just stand around and do can-can kicks for a football or basketball team, they're activities.
Everything with competitive environment can be considered the sport. From playing chess to races. Cheerleading does not have anything competitive - so it is not a sport.
I do believe it is. Now I am not talking about the cheer teams that stand on the side lines and just cheer the football team on. But the teams put a lot of effort into cheerleading and I can see why it is so popular. Plus the teams do really hard stuff that is hard to believe sometimes.
It is. I've done both sideline and competitive and I agree that sideline is not a sport. Competitive is very different and is considered a sport. I've done many sports and cheer is just as competitive and requires the same dedication and hard work as other sports. It's the hardest and stricktest sport I've done. I'm not saying that sideline is easy because its not. It's just not the same as competition teams.
It keeps the American Medical Association members paid to make tissue repairs
so I'd agree with the US Government that over-strained voices are not a sport.
