I competed in my first competition when I was 8, but it varies depending on how many there are in your area so you might need to check out your regional competitions.
If you can do non-stop training with an amazing coach and real determination you might be able to! Four years is a long time and you reach an Olympic level in the end :D
(you should check out the Team USA websites to see how you can get selected, but it's usually by scouting at competitions)
Hope this helps!
i did gymnastics for a while then injured my back so i stopped.
gymnastics is not an easy sport. almost every gymnast i have ever known has started around the age of 4 or 5. gymnastics is not just about wanting to do those cool tricks but its about haven't the right body or being mentally and physically prepared for all those hours you put in.
you are correct it is to late for you to get into the olympics because people your age have probably already entered a provincial level if they are going to be competing in the olympics. i know a gymnastics olympian and she trained for over 30 hours a week when she just turned 16. i did 9 hours when i was 6 and 13 when i was 7 and 8. i was missing about an hour or two of school a week just to train. when i was 8 they told me i was already too behind (that person was dumb).
you can take up gymnastics with an older recreational group and maybe move up to competitive but there is no possible way you are competing in rio in 2016. if you are very talented maybe 2020.
i dont want todisappointt you but i am your same age and like i said before, gymnastics is a sport you have to mentally andphysicallyy be ready for. sadly i had to give up my dream because of my back but i still hope to make it to the olympics as a coach one day or as a 100m runner.
competitions start the second you get competitive. so for me when i was 6. i havehaven'trd of a 5 year old in competition but ive heard of a 6 year old. when i was doing competitions when i was 6 they where kind of junior competions. most people start real competions around 8.
i apologize if i disappointed you. but remember nothing is impossible.
Elite gymnasts start training around the age of 3 or 4. To prepare for the Olympics you have to be part of a training gym and competitions generally begin when you are 11 for a junior gymnast. Once you are 14 you are eligible to compete at a senior level and if you are good enough you can go to the worlds, where if you qualify, you can make it to the Olympics.
So no.
I don't know much about gymnastics but it seems like these girls start at a very young age and train very hard. They dedicate most of their life to this sport and make sacrifices to train. It's possible you can go to the olympics...nothing is impossible. Is it likely? Probably not but prove everyone wrong with your passion and determination. If you have that passion and motivation to work your @$$ off every day for the next several years I think it's possible. This girl that is a gymnast was about 24. Most of them are in their young teens.
Some newbies even go to the olympics. This African guy I think was in rowing. He just picked up the sport a few months ago and he made it to the olympics although he finished way last in the race lol
most start when they're 3 or 4 while olga one of the most famous gymnast started at 11!
Because I'm 13 and I want to start doing gymnastics in the fall and I want to go to the Olympics but I feel like Im starting too late. I also did gymnastics for like 2 years in kindergarten and the 1st grade. So I was wondering when olympic gymnasts usually start doing gymnastics. And when do they start competing in competitions. Do you think its possible that I can still go to the Olympics?
