If they are 'disqualified' (thrown out for cheating) they are sent home !
Its their choice to stay or to go home. Most do stay as the major competition of the year is over. Any other competitions they might have in their season wouldn't be scheduled until after the Olympics are over. Some who have kids at home or regular jobs will go home early.
Sometimes athletes will leave early to attend events elsewhere. 4 years ago, Michael Phelps appeared at the London Olympics kickoff event which stared immediately after the Beijing Closing Ceremonies. I'm sure someone paid good money for him to show up.
its a option for them ,but most of them stay and cheer for there fellow team mates and stay for the closing ceremonies .
(i know i would )
they stay til the end and participate in the closing ceremonies
i should imagine they stay becuase they probaly want to watch the closing ceremony
yes they stay there, till the end.
When athletes are eliminated in the Olympics from their respective sports, are they still permitted to stay in Olympic Village from the duration of the Games? Or do they have to go back home?
