How is the Olympic medal count calculated?

Add up all the gold, silver, and bronze medals a country wins. The one thing you have to keep in mind is the medal count totals up events, not athletes. If your country wins a medal in basketball it's counted once for the event, not for all 12 or so athletes who get medals. Other than that note, it's pretty much self-explanatory.

You will always get two answers, one is the total medal count, counting all medals, the other is that whoever has the most gold's is the country in first place. I prefer the total medal count of all medals won, the USA/Canada/England often list it that way, most other countries rank the order by gold only.

By adding together all the medals won to come up with a total for that country.

Should I type s l o w e r for you?
