Many might say that London opening ceremony was very British, but I felt it was very mix. Britain was at its best, showcasing not only British but that they have now opened their gates to different cultures/ religions etc Even the torch bearers were so multi-ethnic. The open mindedness of starting a new way of living as one world is amazing and that's what was perfectly showcased and I have really applauded to.
Not to forget the queens performance :) it was amazing and really loved it that she was so sportive to become a part of the ceremony
Yes, in my opinion it definitely was! I thought the ceremony was personal to British people what with all the British humour and so on. I loved it! However, I do think that China's was very good ( although China had a big budget, so I guess it should have been good). What I think China was lacking was the more personal touch that Britain had. I also liked the way that lots of different people were included- I didn't like the fact that the Chinese girl singing at Beijing wasn't seen by the world as she was "too ugly". Would be interested to know what everyone else thinks though.... :)
It's hard to determine whether I like it or not. This opening was very different than the past. The whole centre of the stadium became too crowded with lots of hills and countryside stuff. Too many rock concerts, which maybe British culture I don't know. Lack of solemnity - the Greek flag was not raised and the Greek national anthem was not played. The Olympic anthem was not sung but only instrumental.
However, I don't mind about Mary Poppin, Voldemort, nurses they're ok. Very nice way of lighting the Olympic flame - with Oak Leafs carried by children to symbolise the participating nations and young athletes were chosen by former Olympians to light the cauldron - very nice and suitable with the team Inspire A Generation.
Beijing did better because they have lots of money - they can make lots fantastic special effects. Vancouver was also good - very friendly and I enjoyed its good music.
I am British and i thought we did a good job of it, it was very British and had some moments of British humour in it which may not have been to everyones taste .I missed the opening ceremony in Beijing so i cant really compare the two
Unfortunatley the view that the US got was horrible because NBC kept cutting out for commercials and made so many errors or comments about something that were unecessary. Part of you couldn't hear what was going on because they wouldn't stop talking. It was also tape delayed for hours and hours. I KNOW they did a good job but will have to wait to view the whole thing until after the games are over and it is availabler on video.
Totally different styles of ceremony so really can't be compared in any valid way.
It was quirky, it was also very British. Put the two together and it was Great Britain at it's very best.
Too much on the music theme, should have placed sports on sport.
Different and eccentrically British and yes, I loved it.
It was horrible. It was so gay I was waiting for an Elton John and Rupert Everett to start blowing each other while singing a duet.
What did you thing about the London Opening Ceremony? I thought it was pretty amazing showing how Britain is good in different ways :P The industrial era was really cool how they transformed the country side...was it better than Beijing? I personally think it was because this told a story and had more excitement in it but yeah thats just me sooo.....any rude comments will be reported/deleted soo no hate :) Thanks
No it was not, it went to faster than all the other ones in the past
it sucked, beijing was better
