Sport to play in high school?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
I'm kind of a nerd, and I currently swim. The only reason I swim is because my mom makes me play a sport, and so far swimming has been the only one I sort of liked (I've tried a lot of sports). However, I'm starting to hate it, its extremely boring, and I'm also getting extremely slow compared to others. Since my mom makes me play a sport, what do you suggest I do in high school? I'm afraid of trying something new because I feel like everybody is already going to be well accomplished in that sport and I'm going to suck. If it helps, I'm tall and skinny. By the way, my mom defines "sport" as something that you do with other people, probably outside, and on some kind of team with scheduled practices. (I personally love table tennis and I'm good at it, but I don't think my mom would be okay with that because there probably aren't any "teams", just maybe a club or something). Please help, I really don't want to be condemned to swim for another four years (if I even make the team). Right now I just swim in the local aquatic center. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

By the way, I'm very very bad at running, so even though it may seem as a viable option since it doesn't take too much to get started, swimmers don't run, so yeah, I'm a swimmer, but I absolutely hate it. I'd rather just spend my time learning physics or something. (I'm taking 3 classes online during the summer, so I have like no time for anything, and I also play the piano).

Thanks again, a lot, really.

As the first person said try fencing, if you don't like it other ones I could suggest are badminton or cycling.

I've been playing table tennis for 2 years and its a pretty good sport. It's not a team sport, it's an individual sport. I get lessons at my club from a professional sport. It's pretty good exercise too. Once you start getting good an play against better players, you'll have to move around a lot and have good reaction time. A coach might also give you conditioning and other muscle strengthening exercises. Its a good sport, you should go check out your local table tennis club.

Since you are tall, maybe you should try basketball?

Also i recommend skateboarding. It takes alot of time and effort to get started, but once you get the hang of it you′ll love it.

i think you need to talk to your mom forget sports theres most likely 2 reasons she wants you to do it because she wants u to make friends or be active. if its to be active tell her you will start working out at home or going to the gym good luck/:
