Find a place to practise this sport in the Olympics is not a big problem, but is there enough participating nations? Only sports widely practised by men in at least seventy-five countries and on four continents, and by women in at least forty countries and on three continents, may be included in the programme of the Games of the Olympiad.
So if there are enough countries, why not?!
It should definitely be included. It's a great way to keep fit and active and studies show if a sport is in the olympics it boosts its overall participation levels. The geography has never been an issue at the Olympics for examples this year at london 2012 obviously as London is an inland city the sailing was down the English coast at weymouth so they would just adopt this practice if they decided to include surfing.
No. You cannot introduce a new Olympic event just because a minority enjoy it. A lot - but not all Olympic sports originate in Ancient Greece. Most were training for battles - running, throwing, wrestling, equestrian etc. So if we keep adding to an already growing list the games will take longer and longer to organise and deploy. There are many sports that the majority do not want like golf being introduced in Rio 2016. We are straying further and further from the original games.
Yes because it is a sport that keeps you fit and inspires many other surfers to consider participating in the olympics and earning the privelage/chance of a gold/silver/bronze medal. Also, it gives the sport a good name whilst increasing popularity as well as on the job side of things...people that teach surfing will have more people attening their club (however you would word it) therefore they will get a good/fairly high wages as well as acheiving their dream of teaching surfing and not looking on the negative side of losing out on money because it wasn't a popular sport. Referring to my first point, it also inspires young children to try out surfing and see what its all about :) I'm not sure if most of this makes sense because I was rushing it but hopefully it gives you a good point at least :)
Well, ,first of all, it would be hard to schedule events where there is no access to waves - surfing is a little restrictive in that the hosting city would have to have beachfront access. For instance, the Beijing Olympics, they were over 100 miles from the nearest beach - and would that beach have waves suitable for surfing. And while surfing has been introduced in China, it's not a common sport there. Surfing has its limitations. I'd say no, the conditions for surfing could not be standardized for athletes in other countries. There would be significant differences for athletes who surf in different types of surf conditions. It wouldn't be practical at all unless all the athletes had access to the same type of conditions.
I'm definitely not a surfing expert, ... but how exactly would it be judged as a competition sport, ... things like ocean waves are a significantly different variable for each of the participants ...
I need to write an essay about this, anyone got an opinion?
