Osotogari in a street fight?

Absolutely. Make sure the kuzushi is there. And be careful because it is a very powerful throw.

Weird you singled out Osoto. Also not sure what you mean by "pummel clinch". Pummeling is a wrestling term for fighting for clinch position. But, there are a LOT of clinch positions: Russian tie, over/under, double collar, collar and biceps, etc.

But ANYWAY...

If you're more trained in clinch fighting than your opponent, then you should more or less be able to do what you want, including Osoto. My concern with some of the legs trips is that most people don't know how to fall correctly, and if you bounce the guy's head off of asphalt, it may actually result in criminal charges for YOU. Hip throws still get the job done with a much lower risk of being charged with manslaughter.

Hopefully you are smart enough to avoid fighting in the streets. However, yes Osotogari can effectively be used if you know how in any type of confrontation. They will hit the ground fast and hard.

You are there is little technique. I would go a little further and say no technique as most people are not trained in what to do up close or while grabbing or being grabbed.

Osoto Gari is one of my favorite takedowns bc it is easy and very effective when done right. You need to really kick the legs out of the enemy and drive them into the ground with force.

OSOTO GARI

During a semester going to a grading is an aim in my dojo.

Trying Osoto GarI.......! With a friend in a lesson during throws practice involving basics is good to try with a mate. But in the street is not so right because a dojo there is a Judo mat. Judo-ist wears judo gI. And there are senior instructors.

But in the street, it is related to demonstration.

A lot of street fights go into a clinch. Most of the time when I see a clinch in a street fight, the two guys will struggle with each other using little technique and mostly strength if they are untrained in martial arts.

Assuming I could establish something like a pummel clinch or even a bodylock, would a leg trip like the osotogari be useful for putting the opponent on the ground?
