However, it is not 'officially' a sport, even though we do ridiculous amounts of athletic things.
But don't get me started ;) if it were up to me, though, I would definitely say it is!
Yes it is because you're doing it instead of P.E or another physical sport or activity. Dance is considered a sport so cheer is also. It gives you P.E credit but in some schools cheerleading isn't funded as a sport so a lot of fundraising takes place. Overal no matter what cheerleading a sport thast involves dance, motions, lifting, and jumps which all work your muscles and mind so yes cheer is a school sport.
I consider competitive cheerleading a sport--this is coming from someone who has known both competitive cheerleaders and cheerleaders who just...cheer. There is no reason it shouldn't be called a sport.
However, when you just have a bunch of girls clapping their hands and cheering for a team, there's no way that's a sport. Maybe they actually do something at some schools, but from my experience they don't do jack during a football game.
i say it is. now if its just a pep squad that cheers on sidelines then no. but if you involve all the stunts and tumbling then yeah! competitive cheer is as sporty as it gets
