I know how to play a bunch of different sports, but softball isn't one of them. We had a softball game today in P.E. and I wasn't really sure how to play because my P.E. teacher didn't teach us. I didn't know how to play and I ended up losing the game for everyone and everyone laughed at me, and the serious people started yelling at me. It's like they expected me to be born knowing how to play the sport. I'm so embarrassed, and I want to learn how to play because we are going to play softball all week and I want to show them I can play. Please help me!!!! Thank you :)

personally i play club level A softball so i know the game inside and out. For defense, you can play either one of the bases or outfield, if you play outfield, there are two main ways to get a girl out, catching a ball in the air or thowing it to one of the bases (you really want to throw the ball in as soon as possible and NOT hold it) if you play first base, second base or third base, you want to go to your base and cover it only if the ball is hit on the opposite side of the field, if its hit towards you, you want to get the ball and throw it to first as soon as possible. Know that when your hitting, you get four balls and three strikes. If you dont know already, a ball is considered something that is out of our hitting range, a strike is a ball thrown in your hitting range. When you have two strikes, swing at EVERYTHING unless it is above your head or rolling on the floor. Because your playing softball, you cannot leave the base until the ball is out of the pitchers hand when pitched. Also when on defense, make sure your throws are accurate, they can still be slow but a hard thrown ball that is crazy is always worse then a slow accurate throw. When your on base and there are two outs, know that if the ball is hit ANYWHERE you have to run, even if its a potfly ( ball hit up straight in the air)

Wow. Do you actually think you're going to learn the game by someone telling you how to play on here? Look up a basic tutorial and then watch some games. ESPN has been playing lots of College Softball games.

the pitcher is the basket, the batter throws the soccer ball, the three bases are little drawing mats for your to paint pretty pictures on when you get to them, and the home plate is a fancy dinner plate that actually belonged to Queen Elizabeth the first, who invented this lovely game.

Well, the pitcher pitches the ball, and the batter tries to hit it... You have 3 strikes. If they aren't strikes don't swing and you could be walked. Once you hit the ball you run to first base where they will try to tag you out. If the ball is hit to you, field it and normally throw to first... Best advice: look it up.. Kinda hard to explain (:
