You do not join, you are chosen. You get visibility by competitive results and coaches recommendations. But in the end, it is your competitive placement that will get you on the team.

Sadly, you cannot join. You have to qualify and that is a challenge. Ok here are the step. First start at a gym that has men's team. Tell you coaches that you are interested in being on team and they will help guide you in what skills you need. When you have learned them, your coach will have you show your skills to the team coach (usually in the spring, after competition season). Once you make it on team (girls start at level 3 or 4 depending on the gym. I do not know about mens), You will make you way up the team levels til you reach elite which is like level 9/10. By this time you will be doing training camps and gymnastics meets to qualify for the next meet til you reach worlds. After making your way through all those level and training camps. If you qualify for the Olympic trails. There you compete and are chosen by a panel of judges and coaches to be on the Olympic team to compete for your country. When you are chosen to be on the Olympic team, you then compete in the Olympics.
Most gymnast start in there home state and after level 7/8, they leave home to train with an olympic coach. Most gyms do not have coaches that are qualified/able to train their gymnast in the high level skills that are needed.
6 moths to a year before the Olympic games, trials are held in that country (i.e brazil in four years) where (in ur case) gymnasts compete and ye top 40 or so are automatically on that team. If u have a coach, talk to him about it and he can point u in the right direction (apologies for the sad clichés)
