Now several olympics on we are back to a more regular sort of achievement. Also take into account the far greater resources countries such as the USA and China are able to pour into their athletes
For a country of our population we are still doing pretty well, above average.... sure a few more gold medals would be nice but silvers and bronze and making finals and even getting to the games are still terrific achievements and I am proud of our team.
Australia are only good at the bronze medal sports.... ;-)
Australia has only really excelled at cycling and swimming in the Olympics. GB are now dominating cycling and the US and China dominate swimming. Swimming is chronically over represented with medals so has always slightly exaggerated Australia's sporting position. All the great multimedal winners are swimmers for this reason too.
Although it is right to point out that Aus does well for its population, it must be pointed out it spends a lot and has a very focused sports development infrastructure. Aus is doing very badly this Olympics considering that. Need I point out New Zealand have more golds?
It has been said that, sport is a substitute for culture in Australia. Does this mean that Australia offically has not culture now? ;-)

Too many people think of sports betting as just something they do in their past time. However, many people can see the potential that exists if you manage to have the right sports betting strategy and correct approach to betting in general. Are you sick of losing? Interested in finding out how to turn your luck around? Do you want to know which sports betting strategies stand to help you make the most from your betting?
Any good strategy should allow you to place bets based on a systematic method. Of course there is always a random element or so called luck involved, but betting is all about stacking the odds in your favor. There should be no guess work involved or bets placed based on gut feelings. Betting is a business and it should be treated like one. Any money you use for betting needs to be separate from money you use for your daily life or anything else. How can you possibly expect to follow a strategy with money that was originally set aside to pay next week's rent with? You can't. This will help you to focus on the task of betting and remove any emotional strings attached to the money.
So what makes a good strategy or what should you look for in a strategy before you decide to implement it? Any good strategy needs to have a positive expectancy. This means that in the long run you will win. The hit rate of the strategy needs to be above 50% for you to be able to profit in the long run. An ideal win rate should be between 60 to 70%, because you will need to cover the fees and other expensive associated with betting. Is it feasible to expect you'll be able to find a system that has a 100% win rate? No, it isn't. The best you can do is find a system that has a positive expectancy and stick with it. In the long run you will make more money than you can possibly lose.
Keep whatever information and news you have about the teams as up to date as possible. Any changes in the teams makeup or factors that affect how the players play will great affect the potential outcome of a match. Make sure that you are constantly up to date on every aspect that affects the potential outcome of a match. Information is the key to winning at sports betting.
Its a bit unfair to say Australia sucks in the Olympics. They have only won one gold medal so far but -- theirs still plenty of time for the cyclists, Sally Pearson (Hurdles ) and don't forget the swimming is not over yet.
I think you are trying to say that Australia compared to their own high standards at previous Olympics haven't reached those high levels yet.
Give Australian sports people a break. Goodness sake ---Australia has a population of just over 20 million and yet for the last 20 years have been in the top 10 for medals won by competing against countries with 5-10 times the population size of Australia.
Australia has largely overachieved in recent olympics for a country of only 22 million people. This is part due to sport is bigger thing there than in most places, so they dedicate time / resources, etc and are generally stong i sport, but also part due to one of the areas they have been particualy ood in - swimming, is very overrepresented when it comes to medals (thsi also bmps the USA's medal tally), so for once they haven't doen really well in the swimming and tht is hit them hard.
We're terrible this year (although I do agree that the Labour Party suck). Our athletes are too busy trying to get endorsement deals, FHM shoots, etc. I'm fairly certain that Kazakhstan, Poland, Cuba, Ukraine and Mongolia, wouldn't have a fraction of the funding our athletes receive. It's surprises me the media have kept quiet about this disastrous year. Goes to show there is collaboration in the media to suppress certain events or ideas.
Australia just sucks this time round .i think they just did not need to win gold bad enough lazy australia!!!!!!!!!!
No swimmers. No fast suits. No medals.
The Labor party cut the amount of funding for sports that compete in Olimpics
After looking at the medals tally, I realized that Australia is an absolute joke compared to a lot of countries. Just one freaking gold medal. And I bet it's the only one Australia gets too. So why does Australia suck in the Olympics? I thought Australia was supposed to be good at sports, but apparently not.
