I would vote for Jack Johnson. The fact that he was able to become heavyweight champion of the world during a time in which racism was so prevalent and hold that title for any period of time is astounding in my opinion. He dominated the so-called great white hope Jim Jeffries in what was supposed to be the white man's great triumph, and he did all of this during a time in which there were no real sanctioned boxing rules and fights commonly went on for 50 rounds or more. He was also an accomplished entertainer.
Hands down its Kelly Slater, 11 time world champ. Michael Jordan and Jim Thorpe don't even deserve to sit at the same table as Ke11y. Not to mention he is still dominating at the age of 41.
Jim Thorpe was the greatest natural athlete of all time.
Besides winning the pent and dec at the same Olympics, which no one has ever done, setting records in both, playing professional football and baseball, being elite in any sport he attempted, he was all American in college where he had never done a sport before going to college.
He started sports by accident, when he happened to be walking across the campus and saw the track team, he remarked that he could high jump as well as the team member who said do it.
He jumped over 6 feet on his first attempt after only watching high jump for a few minutes.
