It was about representing different aspects of British culture and history which is arguably richer than any other country in the world. Beijing was purely a brash show of wealth, Philistines will no doubt be more impressed by the latter.
you obviously dont understand the story that was being told... dizzee rascal comes from the area in london that was regenerated for the olympics.. he represents the area because of what hes achieved, its not easy to make something of yourself coming from where he grew up... like dizzee rascal, that part of london was a almost nothing area, and now it's well known to the world.
Perhaps since he's black, someone at the BBC assumed he could run fast, and would maybe win a Gold?

i know im watching it and i don't like it, i dont get why they didnt put bands like oasis or blur in the song/music part?? its not as good as beijing 2008 but the rowan atkinson thing was funny
Are you kidding me? It was amazing... I agree that it was not as good as China's, but still one of the best openings I can remember seeing in my lifetime, especially with the countless historical ad entertainment references.
