Pure Sh*te . £27 million of it.
Hmm tough one I think that some brits found it a bit cringe worthy because it was fairly self indulgent to British supremacy whereas to some it made them feel proud. But to most of the world it was just an over the top nonsense (but entertaining) show, just like most opening ceremonies. It was British the mr bean bit destroying chariots of fire and making a comical scene out of it and belittling the whole thing is very british, the complete opposite of beijing and chinas take on things.
On the contrary, I found Mr Bean, the Bond-girl queen and all the other elements in the middle part of the ceremony the best bits. I think you need to find a sense of humour or at least try and be able to understand British humour.
I think it reflected them as a nation... China is more about military precision. Although, the texting thing was very unecessary.
Don't know, I only watched about two minutes of it and found it so embarrassing I watched something else (some woman in a car with a kid in the back drives up to a house and goes in while the kid sits on the doorstep and something else happens inside the house but, by now, I'd almost lost the will to live, not helped by the soundtrack). It sounds as though it had some good bits though I am happy to have shortened the duration of my embarrassment by not watching.
I loved every second of it and so did the vast majority of people I know who are of all different nationalities - and I'm not British. The only people who didn't seem to like it were Americans - basically because the ceremony forced you to think and Americans aren't very good at that.
At this very moment in time the organisers responsible for Rio 2016 have admitted concern that they may struggle to follow London2012.
May I suggest you and the other miserable people who have moaned throughout these games, apply to go to Rio and show the world how it should be done. No, then shut up.
It was quite good but I don't really care for lavish opening ceremonies, I can't really see the point of them. Just get on with the sport!
It was almost 2 weeks ago - give it a rest.
It was no worse or better than many of the self indulgent opening ceremonies that occur.
And it showed the "queen" jumping out of a plane.
What the hell do you want, whinger?
I think the thing I enjoyed the most was Mr Bean! The rest..... I didn't care for at all.
It was bad. The forged rings, the Queen jumping off, the cauldron, the mystery woman were the stand out things about it.
Firstly, you are talking about the GREATEST show on Earth.
Secondly: it was one of the best shows I‘ve ever seen
Thirdly: no conuntry has had an Olympic cauldron, they are always a bowl!
Finally: You probably didn‘t get tickets, so your grumpy!
It was like a west-end show cross between a cheap caravan park entertainment. Mr bean spolied it even more and he queen jumping out the the helicopter... get real
Don't worry you're not alone. I thought it was ridiculously bad.
Not to mention, it was very nationalistic and celebrated everything good about Britain. The Beijing ceremony seemed to be more about celebrating whats good about the Olympics. (The idea of everyone coming together despite their differences)
vvv - Never underestimate the public's appreciation for mediocrity.
Industrial revolution bit was AMAZING. The rest was cheap, cheesy crap you could see at a holiday park.
Ironically Brits are claiming it was best ever opening ceremony..
far too long
