Cheerleading... am I right for it?

Posted at: 2015-05-07
I'm 14, entering highschool and I was thinking about trying out for cheerleading... I weigh 166 (ppl say I don't look it though), I'm 5'0, and I have absolutely no experience, I've never played a sport in my life, and I'm not flexible at all, well I am to an extent, I can kick really high, but I can't do a split... but I'm planning to look up basic moves and make an ATTEMPT to make myself more flexible... but though the physical outlook isn't so good, I've always been told I have loads of school spirit, and a very peppy attitude.... but anyway, do you think I'm able to take on cheerleading in general? Please help...

if cheer is what you want to do then do it. practice practice practice. cheerleading isn't just about flexibility. (although it definitly helps with tumbling jumps dance and stunts) it's about being positive and showing school spirit.

some cardio and basic stretches will help with athleticness

Try it out and practice before you try to join!

You can become more flexible by practicing a bit of the basic moves every day.

Try yoga too!

You can do it if you put your mind to it. Try out because you never know what may happen.

Sometimes, you don't need to be flexible! If you weighted 90 lbs, you would be a flyer, so you would need, but since you'll be a base, you really don't need to be that flexible!

So try out and you'll see that you will LOOOOOVE cheerleading

I think you should at least try out. my cousin started cheerleading when she was 14 and she wasnt flexible at all and she only played soccor. Also i think you will be perfect for cheerleading! i hope this helps! Good luck!! :) :)

you should go for it! your weight doesn't matter and as long as you have sharp moves in cheers and are loud you should be fine.
