Can a professional athlete compete in the Olympics now?

I saw Serena and Venus Williams competing. Aren't they pros? Isn't the Olympics for amateurs anymore?

Obviously, the Olympics are now open to all including professionals.... looks like this change happened decades ago. I personally support this because it is unfair to expect quality sports persons to waste precious time in some other activities merely to earn a living when the sport itself can pay.

Yes, professional players can now compete in the olympics in nearly every event. U.S. Athletes in the 60's and 70's had a hard time competing while being amateurs because they had to train by day and work by night. Supposedly, everyone was supposed to do this, but some countries like Russia and Finland, gave their olympians fake 'official' jobs and supposedly gave them extra benefits. It was becoming too tough to keep things even and peaceful in this atmospere, so they slowly changed it to let pros compete.

There are some events that they allow professionals to compete in. The first 3 that come to my mind are hockey, basketball and tennis.

Yes. Nadal Federer etc from tennis the whole NBA and others compete

Yes. In Tennis, Basketball, and Taekwondo they have professionals. This was never suppose to happen.

@O??тт? Most are pro-am not pro. Pro-am is still, technically, amateur though.

Pros have been competing for a while...I think the first winter games with pros was after the miracle on ice.

Unknown

Pretty much all the athletes are pro's in their field... Yes, many compete professionally.

Are you dumb or trolling?

Triathlon, marathon, most of the athletics, swimmers and volleyball all allow professional athletes.
