***Flying tips*** CHEERLEADERS! Or if you know anything about it!!?

So I cheer for a highschool and a competitive team and coming up are my highschool tryouts I am usually a base, but my coach said me and another girl would be competing to be a main flyer cause there is only one spot left. I am the most flexible girl on the team. I have only done preps and extensions and reloads and pops and full downs so I'm not very experienced. The other girl flew in middle school so she has done a lib and baskets which I haven't done.. and full downs A LOT more than me. I just need some tips and tricks on how to stay in the air and look good in the air. And how to become lighter. Workouts? Should I become more muscular? Or is it better when you aren't as strong? I am usually a base on either side. So I need everything. I really want to be a flyer I have worked soo hard and I almost have a needle! I have a bow and arrow and all that Crap. I just need some help! Please give me some tips!

Okay, so first of all you want to stretch...a lot! I am a flyer on a small coed level 5 competitive team. I've learned that stretching every day isn't good for you. Stretch every other day. Practice pulling body positions on the ground or a soup can. TIGHT IS LIGHT! Always be tight! Since you were a base i bet you know how much of a difference being tight makes. In a smush, hold your own weight in your arms. It makes it easier for the bases and you. As for the other girl being more experienced as a flyer, maybe get some girls together and practice flying (if your coach is okay with it). Try full downs and baskets on a trampoline. Ask your coach for tips. This will show your coach you WANT to improve. Don't forget to smile! Good luck!

Stretch at home and just work out more to give you an edge. It is usually better for a flyer to be smaller but they wouldnt have made you smaller if your body type wasnt right so just keep doing what you are doing food wise. Other than that ask your coaches to help you out so you get more experience. Obviously your coaches wouldnt give this to you if you couldnt do it so they obviously know you are able to do it and shouldnt worry. Aside from that always smile and cheer loudly so even if you are doing badly make it look like you dont care and you are just having fun because that is what the school wants not some miserable, irritated cheerleader so stay happy and enjoy it Good luck!

Hey! Yep, I gotchya girl!

Okay, so the biggest thing is you need to stay VERY tight. You have probably been told this from the beginning but it is honestly the most important thing. Pull yourself up using your shoulders when you hold a high V. We are always told at practice to pretend you're pinching a penny in your butt checks when your in the air. I know it sounds dumb, but by squeezing your butt your body will instantly be tighter. You can probably practice flying on the edge of your bed, but it won't be as stable as flying, but it will help you. Try and pull all of your stunts. Scorpion, heel stretch, liberty, etc. Sit in a straddle position, and reach as far out as you can to the ground, that will stretch out your back and your legs. Go into your splits as far as you can go, and even simple stretches would work too. Pretty much the main things are to just stay tight, don't EVER look down just find something to spot, and trust the people below you to do their job.

You have to stay really tight but be confident if your not confident you'll not do well. Try getting a wobble bord or stunt stand to practice on. You have to be helpful to the bases so be bouncy when being thrown etc. Being flexibile helps so if you want tips go on @flexibilitytipsandmore 's page on instagram. From a fellow cheerleader. To be thinner do ab workouts. I do them often and ive lost alot of weight! Try running to get leg fat off
