Look, there's this saying about shallow people (people who think material items and what is on the outside of a person are more important than inner substance in a person).... "trying to keep up with the Joneses"... It means that there is more to life than money and expensive items, but people who place all of their importance on the material things that they have will always try to be like the rich Joneses who have everything in Gold. Stop. Do NOT want to be or try to be like everyone else. Kryptonic isn't a horrible brand, but they have gotten a reputation for being a cheaper brand since they started selling boards at Walmart. It is a good starter board and nothing to be ashamed of. Some boards have good components, some don't. You can always upgrade, after all, it's just a plank of wood with wheels on it!!!!! The most obvious upgrade would be bearings. Anything below abec 7 is not so good. Bones Reds IMPO are the best - they do not have an abec rating but are considered to be about an abec 9. The second would be the wheels, but really, as long as they are 78a durometer (hardness), and 60mm diameter (widenes/largeness), then there isn't really much to improve on there - all wheels otherwise being pretty equal. And that's about it. Really, IF your friends or others make fun of you it is because they really DON'T know anything about skateboards and are just trying to LOOK cool and better than you with their ignorance. So yeah, DON'T let them get to you, IF they do make fun. Stand tall, know that your board is just as good as theirs and stand by it. It is hard to make fun of someone who is 1)knowledgeable about what they have - educate yourself, find info online and become well versed 2)Proud of their board and "own" it (this means not being ashamed, but really liking your board and not afraid to say so) 3) (and this one is the real kicker) a better skateboarder than them. So get online, get educated on what are good components, etc. and practice riding somewhere where they are not - have your parents take you to an empty parking lot or something. If they say the board is cheap, with your new found knowledge you can tell them ( if it is true, I don't know which board you got so I can't say, but something along the lines of... "Yeah, it's got abec 3's but I'm going to upgrade with Reds a little later one, other than that it is a perfectly good board with a cool design that I really like... so, I can always upgrade my components... I like it, so what".
Hey, so I played soccer on this league,.. all I had to wear was an old t-shirt and sweat pants. I was the best goalkeeper in the league... playing against these people with shiny goalie shirts and top end gloves. I owned it. Our team took the championship and I had several shut out games (no goals scored on me), top keeper in the league and no shiny shirt. And yeah, I felt real proud that I was all DO and not just SHOW like those posers were. And yeah, anyone who would say anything about your board... if they start... just call them posers... that'll really get them going... ;)
For a board that cheap, idk. Friends will be friends and will probably make fun of you,but don't worry about it man,you say they know alot more about them, then just ask them about that stuff and let them help you, there is no shame in that at all. Goodluck bro
How much should you pay for a piece of wood with wheels?
Who cares if they do. If you like it then that's all that matters
