A variety of factors contributed. It's only played seriously in a tiny handful of countries, it requires a specific venue to be built which, in most countries, would be unused afterwards (thus adding to the cost of hosting), it was only in as a female counterpart to baseball and the IOC is pushing gender equality, baseball was taken out due to the poor state of anti-doping controls in the sport and the refusal of MLB to release big name players to compete (plus the reasons listed for softball).
I do not agree with what they did. It was because of America dominating, I guess. But if the other countries want to get better, they should practice to get better. But I don' think that's fair. They consider handball and rifling an Olmypic sport? Than why can't softball! I know, it's confusing...
it was taken off because the United states has won every gold medal since in was introduced in atlanta 1996. Many other sports are also being considered to be taken out including womens ice hockey.
