Hi from France ?
Arggh !..You made me realize I missed the one of London yesterday evening .. Snifff..
Have a great week-end
Cat.
I liked how London's had a bit of a history lesson in the beginning, but to be honest as a whole it was nothing really memorable. The only thing I found worthwhile was the torch lighting and Mr. Bean, lol.
Beijing's ceremony is still the best. It was spectacular and exciting.
I personally preferred London's one because it wasn't as long and I thought boring as Beijing's becasue it was more engaging and entertaining. I thought last night was very good and represented what London stands for. Included was the NHS, James Bond, Mr Bean, Harry Potter, The Beatles, The Red Arrows, JK Rowling, Mary Poppins, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Queen, the Olympic Torch Cauldron was magical. The Chinese one was very spectacular but it was very much everything had to be perfect e.g. using CGI fireworks and replacing a small girl singer with a prettier girl because she wasn't pretty enough for everyone to see. Plus London only spent a quarter of what Beijing did on the ceremony. SO overall I preferred the London one, but that's my opinion.
I personally found London's ceremony much more engaging, as it was so varied and quirky. While Beijing certainly put on a massive, expensive and impressive show, it was quite grand and solemn, and at times I found it boring. London had an affectionate and humorous atmosphere, much more of a celebration and a great welcoming to London, which I think the opening ceremony should really be about. It was also much more modern, with the hilarious clip of the Queen and James Bond. Beijing focused it's ceremony much on lights and the large scale effect from above of lots of people moving, which although breathtaking, was repeated a lot during the ceremony.
Beijing is better because it show you the culture from scratch, a bit more old style. But it show some very high tech which it seem more advance than London...
While London one was too much focus at modern era, no mention of any famous king in the past. Really hated the part of social network was too much like MTV.
I just watched the one in London right now and it wasn't bad. Not to be negative about it, but the two performances with the NHS and the "love story" were just strange in some way, and the songs were a bit weird except for the final song played, "Hey Jude." I never watched the one in Beijing's but I'm pretty sure it was better than the one in London's. I liked how London had those amazing fireworks though! And I simply adored the torch cauldron and the appearances of Mr. Bean/J.K. Rowling.
I have to say, the opening ceremony was rather underwhelming, an incoherent hodgepodge thrown together haphazardly. Watching it was akin to observing a pool of damp vomit: oh, there are some corn kernels in there, and some pasta, and that must be the avocado I had for dinner last night, and the white stuff must be swiss cheese. The coup de grace was Sir Paul McCartney looking like an old lesbian and singing like a turkey with laryngitis... Just awful.
it's an insult to beijing to even compare the 2.
but u guys weren't THAT naive and seriously expected london top beijing, did u?
although i have to praise london... for such miserable financial situation and so much debt, they did pretty well. don't be too harsh on them.
Beijing showed you what thousands can do on mass with a huge budget. London showed you dynamism and invention. I'm pretty negative about British heritage but the ceremony last night changed my mind.
Beijing, but at least the Brits didn't spend (waste) as much money and I applaud them for that. It's just the opening ceremony.
Beijing, definitely. London was humorous and heartfealt, but it didn't give me goosebumps like China did. 2008 was spectacular! But hey that's just me.
Let's be honest here because Olympics is all about being one. :) it doesn't matter whose was more spectacular but I just want to see your choices and comments! Thanks.
I liked London's I thought Beijings was boring and to long.
I must admit though I was disappointed Dr Who or Monty Python didn't make an appearance
Beijing in a landslide. Most of London's seemed to be a mix of boring and 'What on Earth?' They even succeeded in making James Bond boring, and I didn't think that was possible.
And what the heck was going on with that baby? That was ridiculous.
Sydney and then Beijing.
London was a joke, to depressing for my taste.
