Her storied career between 2007 and her path to glory that night she won Olympic heptathlon gold in early August in the Olympic Stadium is a real legacy.
She won the European Athletics Rising Star award in 2007 and was building up nicely ahead of steam for 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. Then she was forced to miss the Beijing Olympics through injury. Her injury was a stress fracture in the navicular and a metatarsal in her foot, so it meant whe she eventually came back she had to change her take off in the high jump from right to left. After twelve months out of action she took the world by storm winning the 2009 World Championships, 2010 European Championships and 2010 World Indoor Championships.
After more than a two year consecutive winning streak in combined events competitions she lost both her world titles in 2011 and 2012 and was chose to forfeit her European crown as it was so close to the Olympics in 2012. Not to mention those couple of years of pressure with millions round Britatin on her as the face of the 2012 Games. Names such as "The Golden Girl of British Athletics" and "The Poster Girl of London 2012". With the Olympics coming ever closer, expectation kept growing on her as London 2012's best bet for a British gold medal.
Come the Olympics, she stormed to gold with three personal bests, a personal best first day points tally and breaking the British record for the second time this year. And she did it the same modesty, determination and down to earth personailty that made the British public take her to their hearts from day one. She is an absolute Legend! Denise Lewis is a close second.
