Vertical jump and flexibility?

My question involves stretching and flexibility and if it allows you to jump higher. I am not flexible, to say the least, and cannot even get close to touching my toes. Any stretch that perform with my legs is hard and hurts. I am trying to get the most out of my vertical for basketball and in general. I have heard from many that stretching and being flexible is hindering on your vertical because when your legs are tight they can be more springy. I have also heard and read that stretching is imperative and must be done for max on vertical. I can grab rim and only need about 3 inches to dunk. Does stretching help with jumping and if so how much. Also to clarify I know that you should always warm up before you jump or do any excersize, I am wondering if stretching all the time and being more flexible will help. Thanks3

Stretching does not improve your ability to jump high. That means that being able to move your joints beyond the normal range of motion can not help your ability.

It is true you need to be able to move your joints within the range of motion for any activity, but being more flexible can not improve your performance.

Research has proved that per event stretching does not improve performance or reduce injury.

Stretching after training is more important.

I don't really stretch a lot before/after I jump. I have a 42' in.or so vertical. The best tip I can give is this:

-Don't do the jumping crap people teach you on free programs.

-Do squats (With or without weights)

-Perform lunges

-Do step ups (Both feet)

-Stretch the following: Quadriceps, Hamstrings, and Calves.

As for the reps, just do as many as you can without straining yourself or feeling weak.

do air alert best workout that makes you jump wayyyyy higher

jump rope.
