Yes, without a qualified instructor you most certainly would pick up bad habits. And without proper instruction, you won't know what those bad habits are until it's too late. At 2nd dan your dad should be qualified to guide you through the basics. I would hope he could give up an hour a week to practice with you.
Doesn't work and never will work. I've met a few so called self taught people who taught they are the $hit, when in fact they are just $hit. When you one day walk into a gym you will actually be worse than someone who's never trained a single day in his life. Self taught people have so many bad habits, they are full of bad techniques and they spend months on end trying to forget those bad habits.

How good are online instructional videos for basic striking techniques,I find you can find everything on youtube these days, there are probably over 100 people from different martial arts who are instructors or former fighters posting videos, im not a complete noob, i used to do karate but i quite at age 11, now im 19, i will be looking to join a martial arts class soon but i don't have time now.
A. will learning by myself get me into bad habits?

B.how beneficial will it be. aka, will i be better than a beginner ?
also my dad is a second dan karate black belt so i do spar with him occasionally but he doesnt have much time due to work
